Privacy Policy

1. Overview

HabitNook is a local-first study companion. Your productivity data — habits, study goals, focus sessions, and preferences — is stored directly on your device and never sent to our servers unless you explicitly enable Cloud Sync or use a social feature. We do not sell your data.

2. Data We Collect

The data we store depends on how you use HabitNook:

• Guest / local use: All app data (habits, goals, XP, timetable, etc.) is stored only in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to our servers.
• Account (email & profile): When you create an account, we store your email address, display name, and plan status in our secure database.
• Cloud Sync (opt-in): If you enable Cloud Sync, your full app state is backed up to our servers. You can disable this or delete the cloud backup at any time from Settings.
• Payments: Premium plan purchases are processed by Razorpay. We store a record of your payment (amount, date, plan) to verify your subscription. We do not store your card details — those are handled securely by Razorpay.
• HabitNook ID (username): If you set a HabitNook ID, your chosen username is stored in our database and used to let friends find and connect with you. You can change your username at any time from Settings.
• Friends & social features: If you use Friends, Study Circle, or SLAM Book, we store your friend connections, preset Study Circle messages, and SLAM Book entries in our database. This data is only shared with users you have explicitly connected with as friends.
• Blocked users: If you block another user, we store that block record to enforce your safety preference. Blocked users cannot send you friend or SLAM Book requests. This information is not shared with the blocked user.
• Reports & moderation: If you report content or another user, we store that report to review it. Reported content is visible only to moderation staff.

3. How We Use Your Data

• Your email is used for authentication and account recovery only.
• We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
• Payment records are used to verify and maintain your premium plan.
• Social data (friend connections, messages, SLAM entries) is used only to deliver those features to you and your connected friends.
• Reports are used for platform safety and moderation purposes only.
• We do not sell or share your data with third-party advertisers.

4. Nooki Coach (On-Device AI)

Nooki Coach uses on-device AI to generate optional coaching notes locally on your device. Your prompts and coaching notes are not sent to external AI servers — everything runs in your browser. The AI model file is downloaded to your device once and reused on future visits.

5. Data Backup & Export

You can export your full app data as a JSON file at any time from Settings. This backup file stays on your device. Importing a backup restores your local data — it does not affect your cloud backup or account status.

6. Authentication Provider

Account authentication is handled by Supabase, a secure backend-as-a-service provider. Passwords are never stored in plain text. Supabase follows industry-standard security practices including encrypted storage and secure session management.

7. Cookies and Sessions

HabitNook uses secure browser cookies to maintain your login session. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used.

8. Data Retention & Account Deletion

Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This removes your profile, friends, social data, and all server-side records. Local device data can be cleared separately using the Reset option in Settings.

9. Children's Privacy

HabitNook is designed for students and habit builders of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us at the address below.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. We will update the version number above. Significant changes will be communicated via the app.
